The parents of former Barcelona captain Gerard Pique, who recently announced his retirement, believe he has made the decision to leave football due to his problems with his former partner, the famous Colombian singer Shakira.
Pique split from Shakira in early June last year and they started legal disputes relating to the custody of their two children, before reaching an agreement, just days after one of the most successful players in Barcelona history announced his sudden retirement from football.
And the Spanish newspaper “Marca” quoted Joan Pique and the Montspert Bernabeu, Gerrard’s parents, saying: “Pique has decided to leave Barcelona now so as not to go out the back door. He made the decision in search of the calm of which he needed to solve his problems with Shakira.
Pique and Shakira reached an agreement on Tuesday about the custody of their two children, as the two children will move to Miami, United States, to live with their mother.
And earlier this month Gerard Pique announced his retirement from football at the age of 35, before ending his relationship with football by getting a red card on Tuesday against Osasuna, even though he didn’t play, but reports referee Gil Manzano indicated that Pique had verbally abused him.
