It’s the song the pop world is talking about now: Shakira’s latest single – which clearly disses her ex, soccer star Gerard Piqué.
Now the music video for the song is breaking YouTube records. The song and video that ridicules the footballer’s new relationship with a 23-year-old got 63 million views in 24 hours on Friday, writes The Guardian. At the time of writing, it has reached 88 million views.
Sharing honest posts after the breakup
Colombian star Shakira (45) and Piqué (35), who played football for Barcelona, Manchester United and the Spanish national team, separated last year after more than a decade. They have two children together.
Pique has since begun a relationship with a 23-year-old woman, Clara Chía.
– From Rolex to Casio
In the diss song – a collaboration with the Argentinian producer and DJ Bizarrap – Shakira sings – translated into Norwegian:
“I’m worth two 22-year-olds,” adding:
“You traded a Ferrari for a (Renault) Twingo/You traded a Rolex for a Casio.”

The artist also literally sings out to this biting line:
“I was ‘out of your league’, and that’s why you’re now with someone like you.”
She also suggests that exercise-loving Pique should spend some time exercising his brain as well.
Strikes back
Now Pique has hit back – with a cheerful twist.
With the reference to the song line “you traded a Rolex for a Casio”, Pique is now dissing Shakira’s diss song.

In a videostream on YouTube last night, he announced with a smile that his high-profile sevens league Kings’s League has now signed a sponsorship deal with Casio. At the same time, he wanted to give out two watches, he said in the broadcast. Showing a Casio watch on his wrist, he says:
“Casio has sent us wristwatches. We have landed a sponsorship deal with Casio.”
In a new message, Pique then adds that “this watch will last a lifetime”.
Tax and mother-in-law
The song makes headlines around the world, and the media accepts this pop cultural dirty laundry.
It is not just Piques and his new flame that gets to undergo the song. Shakira has a lot on her mind, referring to her mother-in-law and the media, as well as her ongoing problems with the Spanish tax authorities, who claim she has not paid €14.5 million in taxes. She risks eight years in prison and a fine of more than 23 million euros if she were to be convicted.
