Shakira announced to have parted with Gerrard Pique. Their relationship, which has been in existence for almost 12 years, foundered after Pique was reported to have cheated on him.
Shakira gave a statement that she had parted with Pique. The statement was released by the public relations agency appointed by the singer from Colombia, Saturday (4/6/2022) evening WIB.
“We regret to confirm that we are separated. For the well-being of our children, which is our top priority, we ask that you respect our privacy,” Shakira said in a statement quoted by Independent.
“Thank you for your understanding.”
Pique and Shakira split after almost 12 years of a love relationship. They have two daughters, namely Milan Pique Mebarak (9 years old), and Sasha Pique Mebarak (7 years old).
Pique and Shakira became close during the 2010 World Cup. At that time, Shakira was the singer for the 2010 World Cup soundtrack entitled Waka-Waka. Meanwhile, Pique competed in the event which was held in South Africa with the Spanish national team.
Before deciding to separate, this couple was hit by the issue of infidelity by Pique. Shakira reportedly caught the Barcelona defender dating another woman.
After the incident, news circulated that Pique and Shakira no longer lived together. Pique was reportedly seen returning to his apartment in Barcelona where he lived when he was single.
The rift in their relationship had previously been smelled after Shakira and Pique both rarely shared moments together on social media. Whereas before, the two of them often show off togetherness.
