Details: Before the head-to-head match, Porto and Shakhtar had nine points each, but the Ukrainians were inferior to the Portuguese in additional indicators, taking third place in the group and already guaranteeing themselves the Europa League playoffs.
The leader of the quartet, Barcelona, guaranteed itself access to the 1/8 finals of the Champions League by the end of the fifth round.
To get into the playoffs, Shakhtar only needed a victory over Porto. But the “dragons” were happy with a draw.
How did the match “Porto” – “Shakhtar” go?
The hosts opened the scoring already at the start of the match: Galenu sent the ball into the empty net after a pass from Evanilson, who won the fight against Shakhtar’s defenders.
Midway through the second half, Shakhtar bounced back in a similar style: Daniil Sikan completed a pass from Alexander Zubkov. At first, the linesman called Zubkov offside, but after consulting with VAR, the referee counted the goal – there was no offside.
However, the Pitmen were unable to go into the break with the score tied: at the end of the half, Galenu scored a double, delivering a powerful shot from the line of the penalty area.
In the 62nd minute, Porto doubled the lead: Galen intercepted Georgiy Sudakov’s pass and passed it into the penalty area to Mehdi Taremi, who fired accurately from an acute angle.
In the 73rd minute, Shakhtar reduced the gap: the ball flew into the goal after Sican’s cross and a rebound from Steven Eustaquio. However, a few minutes later Pepe restored Porto’s two-goal lead, and in the 82nd minute Francisco Conceicao scored the Dragons’ fifth goal.
In the 88th minute, Eguinaldo pulled one goal back. As a result, 5:3 – Porto’s victory over Shakhtar in the last round of the Champions League.

Shakhtar took third place in the group with nine points. The Pitmen will play in the 2023/24 Europa League playoffs. But “Porto” reached the 1/8 finals from second place in the group, “Barcelona” became first.

The last time Shakhtar played in the Champions League playoffs was in the 2017/18 season, when they were eliminated by Roma on aggregate (2:2).
Shakhtar’s results in the Champions League are important in the context of the UEFA coefficient table, in which Ukraine dropped to 18th place after the fifth round of European competition.
