Head coach of Inter Antonio Conte spoke about the upcoming Champions League match with Shakhtar and the absence of Arturo Vidal.
– The first match when you played 0: 0? We do not feel the same mood as then. Tomorrow we need to earn three points, then we won’t have any bad mood. The situation in midfield, of course, is not the best, but you need to do some analysis, make the best choice and perform as best you can.
– In Madrid they say they will not come to an agreement with Borussia on a result that will suit them. How important is it for you, as a coach, to charge your team now and not think about a parallel meeting?
– An important fact: we must win tomorrow’s match. Shakhtar are a great team. Yes, we have a lot of problems with the roster. This is why we need to be strong. What was the mood a week ago at the press conference before the match with Borussia? And now it’s better. We want to win tomorrow – this will be the best solution for us. I am not worried about the match Real Madrid – Borussia, because we are talking about the Champions League and serious clubs. Hopefully, the media will not hype this story either. It’s better for everyone who goes on the pitch and plays. There is no need to listen to people say that some match is decided or not decided in advance. We and Shakhtar will play.
– In the Kiev fight you were let down by the implementation. Can we say that 0: 0 there was not a natural result?
– It was a very difficult match. We know that Shakhtar are a great team with an excellent coach. They have good technique, they are individually strong, they have speed. It is very difficult to play against Shakhtar: this is the third time we meet with them, and each match is a separate story. Naturally, we want to perform well tomorrow. We have no other choice: we won one match, while Shakhtar won two. We will try to achieve a positive result.
– Can Vidal play tomorrow? What will Inter lose if not?
– No, he can’t. Taking risks means not treating his injury. We cannot afford it. Arturo is a very experienced high level footballer. Of course, it’s unpleasant that he will miss the match, but we played without him and against Borussia. Tomorrow we will act as a single team so as not to feel that we are missing someone. I am sure there will be an interesting match.
– How do you feel the day before the meeting? You seem confident despite the line-up issues. Are you working with new circuits? Building your potential?
– I think the most important thing now is to have a good training session on the eve of the match and assess the shape and readiness of the players. This training is very important for tomorrow’s game, especially if we have problems in one of the lines. We must confidently enter the field and overcome all obstacles.
