Shaghaf: A Cultural Exchange of Artistic Talents in Dubai

A team consisting of 3 Emirati female artists achieved the concept of cultural sustainability, by bringing together 62 talented artists from 22 different countries in the “Shaghaf” exhibition, which was held in the Dubai Design District.

The exhibition witnessed a wonderful embodiment of artistic talents and diverse creations, as artists presented distinctive works of art that express their personal experiences and ideas through hand printing.

The aim of this artistic gathering was to highlight the artistic richness and creative expression that this traditional artistic technique has been able to achieve.

Cultural exchange

Al-Bayan met with the three artists to talk about the exhibition. Ahlam Al-Arif developed her talent by studying visual arts at Zayed University, and she says: This hobby began in drawing when I was young, and it was my first step in the art world. The artists participating in this exhibition were able to present their unique artistic style and embody their feelings and opinions through their beautiful artwork.

The exhibition was an important platform for cultural exchange and learning from each other, as they presented a variety of artworks that positively affected and influenced the art audience.

She added: Despite the development of automated paper-making techniques, the handmade paper industry is still practiced in several regions around the world, due to its cultural, artistic and environmental value, and handmade paper is a unique piece of art that is especially beloved by lovers of arts and crafts.

local economy

Plastic artist Alia Al-Shehhi, who specializes in Islamic arts, confirmed that the exhibition succeeded in enhancing communication between artists and the public, and that this unique artistic experience was an opportunity to discover new talents and learn about different cultures. In addition, the exhibition demonstrated the importance of preserving traditional artistic techniques and encouraging artists to use and develop them in their future artwork.

By sharing her artwork in the exhibition, she says: I feel proud to be able to contribute to the revival of this heritage and show it in my own artistic style. I seek to convey the values and spirituality of Islam through my works, and I look forward to inspiring others with my life stories and personal experiences.

Hand printing is more environmentally friendly than large industrial printing in many ways, due to the use of natural and organic materials such as hand printing paper and organic colors made from plants and herbs, in addition to stimulating the local economy as it is often linked to local craftsmen and artists, which supports traditional crafts.

The plastic artist and specialist in hand-printing, Fatima Al-Marri, was distinguished for her participation in the exhibition this year with paintings inspired by the countries she visited, and she says: Hand-printing is an ancient and beautiful art that embodies craftsmanship and creativity.

It is a technique that combines history and modernity, as it allows artists to express themselves in innovative and distinctive ways. We believe that every artist has a unique voice, which is why we are happy to showcase the work of the participants and showcase their talents.

And she continues: Art is the means of expression and communication with the world in a beautiful and influential language. Continuity is the key to success, so make art an integral part of your daily life.
