Shabab Al-Ahly Coach Calls for Increase in Foreign Players in ADNOC Professional League

Marko Nikolic, coach of Shabab Al-Ahly (Red Knights), called on the ADNOC Professional League to follow the example of the AFC Champions League regarding the number of foreign players.

The Red Knights played the opening round of the ADNOC Professional League, where they achieved a confident victory, 3-0, at the expense of Ajman (Orange).

And Nikolic included 3 main players from his foreign quartet in the face of the orange, and they are Mounis Dabbour, Azizjan Janiev and Bogdan Planic.

Shabab Al-Ahly is waiting for a fiery match in the play-off round of the AFC Champions League, where it will clash with the Saudi victory (Al-Zaeem).

Starting from the current 2023-2024 season, the AFC Champions League regulations will allow the participation of 6 foreigners, with 5 players of any nationality, and a sixth foreigner from an Asian nationality.

“I demand that the number of foreigners in the ADNOC Professional League be like the AFC Champions League,” Nikolic said.

The coach, who was born in the Serbian capital, Belgrade, announced that he had chosen 5 foreigners to participate in the upcoming match against Al-Alamy.

Nikolic stressed, “It does not bother me to face international stars (in Al-Nassr). As a coach, I used to face the big teams in the Champions League, and I faced great players from the English Premier League.”

Turning to his match against Ajman, the 44-year-old said, “Congratulations to the players… they made a very great effort, and all the principals and substitutes made a great effort… tactically, we played well.”

And Nikolic continued, “We played a very good match, and we got 3 well-deserved points. We could have scored more, and realistically, the Orangeman only had one chance.”
