SGP leader warns of plans too grand to restore citizen confidence | Inland

Trust in the government after the benefits affair plays a central role in the cabinet formation. In that affair, thousands of people were the victims of the runaway hunt for fraudsters by the tax authorities. The now caretaker cabinet opposed MPs who wanted openness about the matter.

Van der Staaij fears a “proliferation of initiatives, agencies and counters, which, despite good intentions, ultimately lead citizens into a maze.” In his speech he advocated the human dimension and a “servile and modest government that does not overload the citizen.”

Collaboration parties

He expects the formation to take a while. The fact that the focus is on the content will not mean that things will gain momentum, he thinks. It boils down to the political will of the protagonists to cooperate with other parties and “it is still pretty much stuck there.”

Earlier this week, D66 leader Sigrid Kaag said she hopes there will be a cabinet before the summer. Informator Mariëtte Hamer has been working for a week. She will speak with groups next week. She is scheduled to report on June 6, but Hamer has also said that date is not set in stone.
