Even the 2023 edition of the San Remo Festival has come to an end, and it’s time to sum up. If, on the one hand, the public is enthusiastic about the fourth Festival conducted by Amadeus and on the web photos, videos, comments and memes about the event continue to depopulate, on the other hand there are those who have harshly criticized it, even considering it a “total cultural failure”. We are talking about Vittorio SgarbiUndersecretary for Culture.

The harsh criticisms of Vittorio Sgarbi in Sanremo
Interviewed by The print at the end of the Festival, the critic expressed a harsh judgement on Sanremo 2023. “Miserable, senseless, insignificant, childish. No music or songs, nothing remains in mind”, replied Sgarbi to the journalist who asked him how he judged the Festival that had just ended. Sanremo, according to him, was kind of long left rally: “The right should say ‘what we saw wasn’t against us, it was inadequate.’ Very bad,” he said. To then talk about Rai top management: “They have to go home because it was a total failure. A cultural change is needed. The leaders have failed in their control function: it is not censorship to prevent what happened, but to prevent the level from being so low. Why allow a man of government is mocked by Fedez? A level of politics that is too low”. It therefore seems that Sgarbi is in favor of a certain type of censorship (obviously, he didn’t listen to Roberto Benigni when he spoke of article 21 of the Constitution). In fact, when the journalist asked him if, in this case, it wouldn’t have been censorship, he replied as follows: “Nah, you can’t have a publisher who doesn’t supervise what happens, not in a censorship sense but in a qualitative sense. Of this Festival you don’t remember a gesture, a verse, a song, only the clothes. You cannot exchange culture with Benigni, Fedez and Ferragni. You need a direction of character”.
Sanremo, Sgarbi against Chiara Ferragni
Vittorio Sgarbi then shot zero on some of the protagonists of this Festival, and in particular on Clare Ferragni. The entrepreneur, who co-hosted the first and last evening of Sanremo, got a decidedly low grade from him: “Two. Functional illiteracy. An inept one. A goat, clumsy. She read leaflets in an unlikely language that it’s not Italian. I’ve never seen anything like it. Elly Schlein would have been better”. Instead, she saves herself Amadeus: “Seven and a half, sober and elegant. A good presenter, the one that Ferragni isn’t. He could be paired with Morgan. Morgan is a musical researcher and he who doesn’t know a note is the presenter”. Just Morgan is one of nomi proposed by Sgarbi to renew the top management of Rai and the management of the Sanremo Festival: “For the management of the Morgan festival, a bridge between classical and contemporary music: better a real extravagant like him than a fake one like Fedez. For the presidency Paolo Mieli, a man who has equidistance. Instead of Fuortes we need to aim high: Corrado Augias, Geminello Alvi, Roberto Andò, Emma Dante, Toni Servillo, Giorgio Montefoschi”.
