The Abruzzo footballer of Padova, <a href="https://www.world-today-news.com/footballer-convicted-of-sexual-assault-fans-defend-him-controversy-in-padua/" title="Footballer convicted of sexual assault: fans defend him, controversy in Padua”>Michael Liguori25 years old, was sentenced, together with a friend of the same age, to three years and four months of first degree imprisonment for sexual assault by the Court of Teramo.
The facts in 2018
The episode dates back to 5 July 2018, when Liguori – 19 years old at the time and about to move to Notaresco after leaving the Pescara youth team – and his friend had met two minors at the Alba Adriatica station with whom they would have secluded themselves . According to the accusation, the two young people would have abused the girls, who were 15 and 14 years old at the time. The minors then filed a complaint, triggering the investigation. The defense lawyer of the two young people, Mauro Gionno, had asked for acquittal “because the fact does not exist”, maintaining that there had been no violence and that the girls had consented. Gionno announced his intention to appeal as soon as he read the reasons for the sentence. The Calcio Padova club also intervened in the sentence. “The president Francesco Peghin and the managing director Alessandra Bianchi – we read in a note – have declared that the company will not express any type of evaluation regarding the matter until justice has expressed itself with a definitive sentence in the last instance of judgment “.
