Khushbu Sundar, actress and member of National Commission for Women, said that children should open up about sexual exploitation, including sexual exploitation. Khushbu had revealed the other day that she was sexually abused by her father at the age of eight. Khushbu added that children should not hide such things and in most cases the perpetrators are known to the child.
Children will have an idea of what the society will ask. Khushbu also asked whether it was their clothes or friendly interaction outside of acquaintance that provoked the criminals. Khushbu shares the bad experience she had recently. Khushbu said that she hid it from everyone until she was fifteen, and when she told it later, the family cut off all contact with her father. Children often live in fear of the consequences of speaking out. Khushbu also said that her father threatened to harm her mother and brothers if she spoke out.
Bushbu added that if there were tough laws like POCSO, he would have taken his father to court. He receives many calls related to such issues. Khushbu stated in an interview to a national media that they shared the hope that once they would have the courage to open up about everything. He is currently living with his mother who is suffering from dementia. She added that her father died somewhere in Mumbai last year.
