Lidewijde van Lier has been an expert in morality at the National Police for 17 years. In Eva Jinek’s talk show program she told last night how special the vice case that came out yesterday. “I notice that I first look at this case as a person and as a mother and think: this is very intense. But also when I look at the case from my profession, I see that this case is special. Fortunately, we get these kinds of cases not in every day.”
Female suspect
According to Van Lier, there are several factors that make the case rare in her opinion: “We are dealing with very young girls here, very young children. In addition, there is a female suspect, which we do not encounter very often. And footage has also been found.”

The sexual assault case started rolling on Saturday, June 12. The parents of a then 2-year-old girl came home that evening after a night out. A 52-year-old woman, who has offered herself since 2019 through various babysitting sites, babysat their child in the house that evening. When the woman had left, the parents saw images from the nursery that the nanny had sexually abused their child. They immediately called the police and the woman was arrested that same evening.
Video calling during abuse
After studying the images of the 2-year-old girl’s bedroom, it became clear that the nanny had contact with someone via video calling during the sexual abuse. This turned out to be a 58-year-old man. He was also arrested that same day.
Ultimately, the Public Prosecution Service assumes that the woman sexually abused at least 7 girls – between one and six years old at the time. There are no indications that the child pornography was sent to others or, for example, on the darkweb is placed.

Sex expert Van Lier can well imagine that many parents, after reading the abuse case, are unsure whether they should hang cameras in the children’s room. However, she does not recommend that. “I would never give that advice, but I understand the feeling very well. As a person and as a mother you think: is my child still safe?”
‘Don’t see everyone as a monster’
“But we shouldn’t start seeing everyone as monsters now. You should talk to your nanny if you have any doubts, share your concerns with them. It’s not my advice to live in fear and always check everyone.”

Specialized sex detectives have informed the parents involved in the sex offense in recent weeks about the sexual abuse of their children and the suspicions towards suspects. They reacted with shock.
‘Giant Bomb’
According to Van Lier, these kinds of conversations with parents are always very intense. “There is no blueprint or protocol that we can consult that states how to inform parents about this. It really takes something from a vice detective to do that. Because you drop a huge bomb on a family. They need care and help after this. You first have to help those parents, ensure that they remain calm and can take care of their children properly.”
Press prosecutor Janine Kramer made it clear yesterday that the families involved were immediately offered psychological assistance and guidance from Victim Support. The suspects will appear in court for the first time on Monday for a pro forma hearing.
