A large portion of sexual misconduct complaints submitted to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) have been made by men.
42% of the 19,000 complaints of sexual misconduct received within the CAF were made by men, revealed the new chief of staff, General Wayne Eyre.
Interviewed on the show The West Block Broadcasting on Global News, Eyre said the scope of complaints submitted through this process points to a problem the CAF must strive to resolve – albeit not easy.
“This is an issue that we all need to address. It is also a problem of power dynamics which speaks of an element that we must correct ”, he maintained.
“The reach is a testament to the depth of the problem,” added Mr. Eyre.
General Wayne Eyre became the Chief of Staff of the Canadian Armed Forces on Thursday. A post he has already held on an acting basis since Admiral Art McDonald was removed from his post last February over allegations of sexual misconduct.
Mr. Eyre, however, said the military was not considering any administrative sanctions against Mr. McDonald for the sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
