Sex is not as enjoyable as it used to be? Could be the culprit HSDD

Surabaya – Some say, intimate relationships or sex are the pillars of a harmonious household. What if the pole collapses, marked by sex that feels no longer enjoyable?

There are various factors that can worsen the quality of sex between husband and wife. One of them is Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD).

HSDD is a condition when a person loses sexual desire for a long time. This health condition can be caused by psychological and nonpsychic problems.

Physically, HSDD can also be caused by hormone problems and functional abnormalities in certain organs.

As reported by detikHealthMonday (27/2/2023), obstetrics and gynecology specialist from Pondok Indah Hospital (RSPI) Dr. Putri Deva Karimah SpOG gave an explanation about HSDD.

He revealed that HSDD generally occurs in women aged 18 to 44 years (8.9%) and women aged 45 to 64 years (12.3%).

Meanwhile, according to a study, 1 in 10 women experience HSDD and 32% of women and 15% of men have the potential to experience loss of sex drive for several months.

What factors cause HSDD?

HSDD occurs due to psychological problems, social factors, to medical. Examples include trauma, depression, too busy activities, to changes in female hormones before menopause.

In addition, HSDD can also be triggered by disorders of the brain’s working system, history of operations on the reproductive organs, and consumption of certain drugs.

Other Factors Triggering HSDD

• The problem of having difficulty sleeping so that you are easily tired

• Organic neurotransmitter compounds in the brain that are inactive and interfere with sexual desire and function

• Effects of chemotherapy drugs, antidepressants, and others

• Pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding

• Have diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and others

HSDD Handling

If the patient feels that he has HSDD, it is advisable to immediately consult a trusted doctor. Don’t be shy about discussing your sex life worries and treatment options.

• Be open to your partner about sexual desires

• Reduce stress by getting more sleep, meditation and breathing exercises

• Limit consumption of alcohol and cigarettes
