“Sevilla Salvages Draw Against Manchester United in Europa League Quarter-finals”

Bola.net – The two-goal advantage that Manchester United had held at the start of the match was in vain. At the end of the match, Sevilla managed to make the score equal 2-2 in the first leg of the 2022/2023 Europa League quarter-finals.

The Old Trafford crowd probably thought they would win the game after Marcel Sabitzer scored two quick goals (14′, 21′). However, Sevilla replied through two own goals, Tyrell Malacia (84′) and Harry Maguire (90’+2).

Yes, Maguire is somehow unlucky. Entering early in the second half actually made him the culprit of this draw.

However, if one looks closely, Maguire’s own goal cannot be avoided. He was very unlucky in that position when the Sevilla player’s header instead of heading towards the goal, went towards his head.

After all, this draw cannot be delegated solely to Maguire. The entire Man United squad is responsible for this disappointing result.

What lessons can be learned from Man United’s draw against Sevilla? Check out the reviews below!

Open Game Duel

Jose Luis Mendilibar confidently led Sevilla into an open game: high blocks, high press and quick play of short passes.

Erik ten Hag is ready with this strategy. Man United also served him with an open game.

As a result throughout the match, moments of vertical and straight forward passes are often exhibited.

Especially in the first half, Man United was more effective when playing openly so they scored two goals. Sevilla improved in the second half. A little advantaged because many opportunities for Man United did not enter, Sevilla stole two goals at the end of the match and made the score equal.

Role Change

The effectiveness of Man United’s open play was influenced by the changing roles of a number of players. The most visible change occurred in the roles of Anthony Martial and Marcel Sabitzer.

Martial who was placed on the cutting edge actually played like a creator. He goes wide, picks up the ball, waits for his teammates to arrive, then releases through balls.

Sabitzer, who plays in the midfield position, is even more attacking. In every counterattack, it was Sabitzer who filled Martial’s vacant position. As a result, two goals were created from him.

Without Bruno in the Second Leg

Man United has one bad news from this victory. Bruno Fernandes certainly cannot play in the second leg due to accumulation of yellow cards.

The captain should not be allowed to get a yellow card in this match. Unfortunately, Bruno got a yellow card in the 41st minute for handball.

This decision is debatable because the ball hit Bruno’s hand as he dropped. Bruno was angry with this decision, but the referee ignored it.

Not Maguire’s Fault Only

Harry Maguire is considered to be the culprit of Man United’s minor results. However, the draw was not entirely due to Maguire’s own goal. It all happened because of all the players.

Man United seemed to make easy every golden opportunity that came after winning two goals. Antony and Wout Weghorst squandered the opportunity.

Determination to win the match also dropped dramatically in the second half. After performing well in the first half, Man United’s defense became too easy to penetrate.

No Rashford, No Party

Manchester United supporters’ fears of losing Marcus Rashford have finally been proven. Apart from being able to score two goals via Marcel Sabitzer, Man United still find it difficult to rely on other players to score goals, especially forward players.

Antony had a number of golden opportunities to score goals, but none came in. Jadon Sancho is dead on the left too.

Anthony Martial, who happened to change roles, was also unable to come up with a solution to score a goal. Moreover, Wout Weghorst is still unable to convince Man United to make him permanent.
