Cold bad weather in the next few hours with very low snow
In the next few hours, a cold worsening of the weather will affect many regions of our country where we expect real snow storms which could also affect the coastal areas.
In the next few hours, while a cold improvement will take hold in the North, the meteorological picture will remain very unstable in the Adriatic district and in much of the South.
It is important to pay attention to snowflakes, which could reach relatively low altitudes: we are talking about around 200-300 meters in Abruzzo, 300-400 meters between Puglia and Campania, and over 500 meters in Calabria. Along the coasts of Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia, local thunderstorms are not excluded, with the possibility of ‘graupel’ precipitation, a form of precipitation similar to hail, which could also temporarily whiten some seaside resorts.
On the hills and along the Apennines, a particularly severe meteorological condition, called “Blizzard”, is also expected. This situation is characterized by strong winds, very low temperatures and reduced visibility due to heavy snowfall. These are, essentially, violent snowstorms.
Where temperatures will be less cold, we expect heavy rain, even in the form of showers.
This meteorological context, typically winter, will characterize these areas for most of the day. However, towards the late afternoon and evening, the first signs of an improvement are expected starting from the central regions. Be careful, because this will happen in an increasingly cold context, with a further drop in temperatures which, between the evening and night, will bring frost to many areas of the North and Center.
Finally, we would like to point out that the Department of Civil Protectionin agreement with the regions involved, issued a warning of adverse weather conditions.
The warning, valid for Saturday 20 January, predicts the persistence of strong to gale force winds from the northern quadrants, with strong gusts of gale force winds in Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Umbria and Tuscany, with particular reference to the Apennine sectors and coastal. Strong storms on exposed coasts.
On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, a yellow weather alert has also been assessed for large sectors of Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria for Saturday 20 January.
