More and more snow showers are moving across the country on Monday evening, reports say Weatheronline. Outside of showers, wet roads can freeze and become slippery, the weather bureau warns.
Now that it is cooling down outside, those showers also bring dry snow that then remains. There is also a chance of thunderstorms during snow showers over the next 24 hours. So-called thundersnow is a rare phenomenon, according to Weeronline.
The KNMI had already declared code yellow for the entire country. Hail and snow showers occur and a snow cover of a few centimeters may form inland. The chance of slippery conditions increases on Monday evening and night. There will be wintry showers on Tuesday, especially in the northeast.
KLM warns of delays due to the winter weather. The airline has also canceled several flights from Schiphol. Travelers are advised to keep an eye on the status of their flight via the website.
Schiphol’s website shows that KLM flights to London, Copenhagen and Berlin, among others, will not depart on Monday evening. In addition to the snow, a limited capacity for de-icing aircraft is also a problem for the airline.
Earlier in the evening, three Transavia planes had to divert to Groningen Airport Eelde to land safely. The passengers will still be taken to Schiphol by bus, it reports Dagblad van het Noorden.
