This is what meteorologist on duty Eirin Walstad Ristesund says on Tuesday. A number of danger warnings are out in almost the entire country for Wednesday. A large storm center is heading towards the coast from the Atlantic.
It already hits Troms on the night of Wednesday.
– It will be worst east of Lyngen. Full to strong storm from the south with the possibility of gusts between 35–42 m/si in the lowlands. The wind will increase to a stiff, strong gale on the night of Wednesday and will be strongest in the middle of the day with all the associated consequences of this, says Ristesund.
There is good reason to wait with the long journey if you do not absolutely have to drive tomorrow.
– There has been a good amount of snow recently and there will also be more on Wednesday, so heavy snow drifts and poor visibility will be a problem in pretty much the whole of Troms. I can say that with more reasonable certainty.
The gust warning in parts of Troms and Finnmark has been updated ⚠️ On Wednesday, a southerly storm is expected, with the possibility of very strong gusts of 35-42 m/s in some places. The wind increases from early on Wednesday and reaches its strongest in the middle of the day, before decreasing somewhat on Wednesday evening💨 pic.twitter.com/tlFVWhxgtx

Dangerous along the coast
Ristesund points out that there is a great danger of icing along and out from the coast and in the fjords.
– Sea spray can freeze on both boats and associated equipment, and it can become very slippery along the water’s edge and on quays, in addition to strong winds. You should be very careful around the water’s edge on Wednesday, says Ristesund.
She also points out that there could be trouble for ferries and speedboats tomorrow.
– Everyone who is going to travel tomorrow should check the road traffic reports, the weather map and stay updated continuously throughout the day.
We have updated the danger warning about icing on ships in Nord-Troms and Finnmark. In Eastern Finnmark, heavy icing is now expected between 06:00 and 17:00 on Wednesday. It corresponds to orange level. Otherwise, icing is expected at a moderate (yellow) level in the north. Stay up to date on Yr/danger alerts ⚠️ pic.twitter.com/g5D1B4jGrB

Possible trouble in Tromsø
As usual, Tromsø is sheltered from the worst of the storm, but there is a possibility of wind gusts at the level of a small storm from the south also here in the middle of the day on Wednesday.
– There is a slightly insidious wind direction for Tromsø as well, which we know can be felt well in exposed places. The airport at Langnes and the bridge over to Kvaløya could face challenges if it goes ahead, says Ristesund.
Great risk of avalanches
Already on Monday, an extraordinary avalanche warning was sent out for Troms and Finnmark.
– The wind will be even stronger in the mountains. This applies to exposed places throughout Troms, also inland. There is a lot of loose snow that will move and visibility will not be particularly good either, says the meteorologist.
– Everyone has to make their own assessments, but none of us employees up here are going on a mountain trip tomorrow so to speak.
The avalanche warning does not officially start until 1 December, but Varsom is still out with an avalanche warning for parts of Troms and Finnmark on Wednesday. A high risk of avalanches is then expected (=danger level 4) in connection with the strong low pressure in the west⚠️ Therefore avoid all avalanche terrain. pic.twitter.com/gYDpW4SHxv

The good news is that after a fierce weather day, we will return to normal winter weather.
– It calms down a lot and stabilizes with cold weather with a little top-up of snow sometimes. Then there will probably be good hiking opportunities.
