Severe weather schedule for Pentecost: series of thunderstorms expected in Germany – meteorology

To understand the weather, you have to look at the air. In particular, the moisture only penetrates to the middle of Germany on Friday and Saturday. South of a line from Cologne to Leipzig it can get muggy and hot from Friday and this increases the risk of thunderstorms. Here is the timetable for the long weekend:

Friday: First thunderstorms are approaching

From 15 clock: A loose thunderstorm line forms from Saarland to Allgäu. There is heavy rain and hailstorms. Heavy thunderstorms are brewing there, but squalls remain the exception. And also big hail is not to be expected on Friday.

Until 8 p.m.: The thunderstorms reach a line from Cologne via Frankfurt to Munich. From 8 p.m. the strength of the thunderstorms will decrease. However, they continue to move via Franconia and Hesse to Thuringia and Vogtland.

It will remain dry north of a line from Cologne to Leipzig. There might be a few clouds, but apart from that it’s a beautiful summer day. The muggy air stays in the south.

Saturday: heat without lightning

According to the current status, there will only be a few thunderstorms over the low mountain ranges on Saturday. The maximum values rise up to 30. Locally it can even be up to 32 degrees. But high pressure is spreading, which dampens the thunderstorm activity. One should nevertheless remain cautious, because such weather conditions can also lead to surprises. Nevertheless, Saturday will probably be the best day of the Pentecost weekend.

Pentecost Sunday: Storm over Germany

On Sunday the high pressure will drop and the thunderstorms will spread very quickly.

Till 9 o’clock: The first thunderstorms are already gathering in the west and south-west in the morning.

Until 3 p.m.: The thunderstorms have reached the western half of the country. There will be thunderstorms from Emsland to Franconia and Upper Bavaria. A storm line forms, maybe two. Severe thunderstorms are also possible on Sunday.

The center of gravity is most likely in the south. Supercells can also occur here. The thunderstorms are definitely dangerous on Sunday. There can be gusts of wind or severe gusts of wind up to 100 km/h. You also have to reckon with large hail and of course heavy rain.

It is not yet possible to say exactly where the thunderstorms will occur. But the danger areas are already showing.

Until 7 p.m.: The thunderstorms reach a line from Münster to Nuremberg and Munich. The severe thunderstorm situation has reached its peak. In the east and in large parts of the north it will remain very summery and calm until Sunday evening.

Whit Monday: Thunderstorms and showers

The thunderstorms from the night have reached the north and east. Most of the time it’s just showers. The damp and warm air has still not been cleared away. But during the course of the day, the air is displaced by a cold front. There will be thunderstorms again. There is still a risk of heavy rain, but the peak of the storm is already over. On Monday it is already cooler than at the weekend. And on Tuesday the temperatures will continue to fall and will reach a maximum of 15 to 25 degrees.
