Severe Weather Causes Road Closures and Transportation Disruptions in Norway

There has been a lot of precipitation in the form of rain. In combination with a lot of snow from before and cold ground, there is a risk of very slippery roads and a lot of storm water in the south, east and west of Norway,

It reports The Swedish Road Administration on its pages.

– We encourage you to leave the car. If you still have to drive, check weather and traffic reports before you travel and drive according to the conditions.

This is the status of the mountain passes in southern Norway:

  • E6 Dovrefjell: Closed
  • E134 Hawkeli: Column

Crash in several places

In many places there has been flooding and inundation and in steep terrain there is a great danger of avalanches.

– There is a red danger warning for avalanches in large parts of Western Norway, southern parts of central Norway, northwest Agder and northern Telemark.

Several roads are closed and there is a risk that more roads will be closed at short notice, reports the Swedish Road Administration. On the E18 Grimstad-Lillesand, between Gaupemyr and Morholtkrysset, it is closed in both directions due to two different accidents.

On Tuesday morning, the E16 over Filefjell is open to free traffic.

There have been four traffic accidents in Agder on Tuesday morning, writes Fædrelandsvennen.

– It can be mirror-smooth even if it is black asphalt, so people have to take it very easy in the morning. It seems like cold air freezes on the ground in some places and makes it very slippery, says operations manager Eyvind Formo in the Agder police district to the newspaper.

Trouble in public transport

In Oslo, some public transport departures will be canceled due to a lack of buses as a result of the conditions on Monday.

Around 30 bus departures are canceled early Tuesday morning. The subway and the tram are running as normal.

Bane Nor has closed train traffic between Stange and Eidsvoll. There are supposed to be problems with the power supply between Espa and Tangen which has led to the closure.

Closed between Stange and Eidsvoll. It is still uncertain what caused the power outage first. The regional train Drammen-Lillehammer and the train between Oslo and Trondheim are affected.

Bane Nor’s press officer, Øystein Stavdal Paulsen, says they have people on their way out to take a closer look at the problem.

– Since we don’t know what it is, it is difficult to say when it will start again.

Bergensbanen is open to normal traffic again on Tuesday morning. Due to the risk of landslides, there have been no trains between Oslo and Bergen since Sunday.

– Traffic is moving again, but you still have to expect delays, writes Bane Nor on its website.
