Severe Weather and Snow Expected This Week – Will April Showers Bring May Flowers Early?

If April showers bring flowers in May, we may be able to expect a massive bloom depending on how this month starts.

A powerful low pressure system will slowly make its way through the region over the next three days, bringing a wide range of severe weather through midweek.

Rain will arrive during the Tuesday morning commute and stay throughout the day. Isolated thunder will be possible, but severe weather conditions are not expected at any time during the day. There is a possibility of minor street and stream flooding in central and southern New Jersey.

The wet weather trend continues on Wednesday and the wind will also increase. Easterly gusts exceeding 40 mph are possible, which could cause minor coastal flooding in New Jersey.

There is a small threat of severe weather, primarily in southern New Jersey. Damaging winds pose the greatest threat to that area. Meanwhile, there remains a chance for minor flooding of streets and streams in the New York metropolitan area to coastal New England, especially in areas that flood frequently.

And even though it’s April, there will be a chance of snow, believe it or not. Spring snow could be seen in the higher elevations of the Catskills Wednesday night.

That chance of snow remains for Thursday in the city’s north and west ends, and will mix with rain. A Winter Storm Watch was posted for western Ulster County due to accumulation in the Catskills.

Elsewhere on Thursday, there will be some lingering showers in the New York area and further south. The winds may not be as strong, but there will still be a breeze.

The good news is that by Friday, the storm system will finally pass and high pressure will set in. That means the Yankees’ home opener should go ahead as scheduled (expect windy, cool conditions). The weekend and eclipse weather looks great.
