Severe Weather Alert: Tornado Watch Issued for North Texas

Thursday afternoon and evening there will be a chance for severe weather across North Texas, likely followed by a couple of days of wetter conditions.

Thunderstorms could produce large hail, dangerous wind gusts and heavy rain this Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

A tornado watch was issued until 6 pm Thursday for certain areas north and northwest of Dallas, including Cooke, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Wise and Young counties. This region presents favorable conditions for severe weather to occur with the presence of tornadoes, wind gusts of up to 70 mph and hail up to 2 inches in diameter, according to the weather service.

Storms may begin in the late afternoon, as well as form a cold front moving south.

The chance for severe weather in the region will decrease overnight as storms move toward central Texas, the weather service warned. Chances for storms and rain will persist on Friday and Saturday, with drier weather forecast for St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday, according to the KXAS-TV (NBC5) forecast.

Colder temperatures are expected to hit the region early next week.

Likewise, high temperatures in Dallas are expected to be in the 60s Fahrenheit from Friday to Tuesday, with lows in the 50s Fahrenheit from Friday to Sunday and then dropping to the 40s Fahrenheit the next two days.
