Severe Weather Alert: Tornado Watch and Thunderstorm Warning in Sullivan County

Tornado Watch Issued for Sullivan County as Severe Thunderstorms Threaten the Area

August 12, 2023 – The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Sullivan County until 9 p.m. tonight. This comes as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of the area until midnight. CBS New York has placed the region on Yellow Alert due to the threat of strong-to-severe thunderstorms that may occur from now through the overnight hours into early Sunday morning.

While most of the thunderstorms in the area have been sub-severe so far, the showers and storms are expected to come in waves. One wave is currently moving through, with subsequent rounds expected after 6 p.m. The strongest wave is anticipated to approach by the midnight hour.
