Rain will continue into early afternoon before thunderstorms much stronger that will develop after 4 pm bringing the threat of severe weather to our area. The rain should end after midnight, and conditions will improve Tuesday and Wednesday with clear skies and warmer weather .
NEW YORK — If you thought the Tri-State area was going to start the work week off with nice weather, think again.
After an initial round of moderate to heavy showers this morning, there will be a brief lull in activity before a few scattered thunderstorms begin to develop after noon Monday.
The rain will continue into the early afternoon before much stronger thunderstorms develop after 4 pm bringing the threat of severe weather to our area.
There will be the possibility of localized flash flooding in scattered areas with widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches and higher localized amounts of up to around 3 inches possible along with possible torrential downpours of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Damaging wind gusts will also be a primary concern, especially for the westernmost sections of the forecast region where tornadoes are possible.
A tornado watch was even issued for parts of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland until 11 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The rain should end after midnight, and conditions will improve on Tuesday and Wednesday with clear skies and warmer weather.
However, the possibility of thunderstorms returns on Thursday.
