Heavy rain and waves of up to three meters are expected. The strongest winds will occur out to sea northwest of the provinces of Cagayan and Batanes, but there may also be strong winds on the most exposed islands in this area.
Hurricane Doksuri is thought to bring with it a rain belt 680 kilometers wide, and the expected amounts of rain could trigger landslides and floods.
The weather authorities fear that the hurricane will intensify the effects of the season’s monsoon rains in the central and northern provinces.
Doksuri is out in the sea about 310 kilometers east of the city of Tuguegarao in Cagayan province. On Tuesday afternoon local time, the winds were measured at 185 kilometers per hour, with gusts of 230 kilometers.
The hurricane will eventually follow a path in the direction of southern Taiwan and later lose power over China.
