Citizens of the Big Apple should prepare this Monday for even more severe weather that during the weekend, due to the strong winds that blow in the city with gusts that could knock more than one passerby to the ground.
It is estimated that Sustained winds of around 20 mph begin today at mid-morning Monday and continue until 6:00 p.m., decreasing by 8:00 p.m.
It is expected that blizzards reach up to 50 mph, and could even reach 60 mph at some elevations.
“Wind gusts in the northeast tomorrow will be in the 40 to 50 mph range,” FOX Weather meteorologist Cody Braud said.
“Stronger wind gusts, close to 60 mph, are still possible, but will occur primarily at higher elevations. While these are impressive wind gusts, they probably won’t hurt or knock people over directly from the force of the wind.”.
Therefore, Weather advisories have been implemented throughout New York City to avoid high windsand the city closed bridges to empty trucks and trailers to prevent possible collisions, according to Gothamist.
In addition, In outer districts and suburbs, falling trees could cause power outagessaid Braud, and the winds will prevent work crews from making the corresponding repairs.
“Downed trees could be problematic due to the large amounts of rain we have seen lately. The ground is saturated, so it may not take much to take down trees,” he said.
“It is unclear how many customers could be without power, but it could be many hours if the winds are too strong for crews to restore service.”
