Severe Tram and Bus Disruptions in Île-de-France Following Death of Nahel, 17, by Police Fire

Following the numerous tensions that arose during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, tram and bus traffic is severely disrupted this Thursday. The events of the night follow the death of Nahel, 17, killed by police fire last Tuesday in Nanterre.

Several tram lines in Île-de-France are particularly disrupted Thursday after a night of violence linked to the death of Nahel, 17, killed Tuesday by a police officer during a traffic check in Nanterre.

The T1 (Asnières-Noisy-le-Sec) “is interrupted between Marché de St-Denis and Asnières Quatre Routes due to security measures“, explained the RATP on its website, estimating the recovery time at 2 p.m.

The same time has been announced for the resumption of T4 (Bondy station/Aulnay-Sous Bois-Montfermeil Hospital station), which is interrupted between Gargan and Montfermeil Hospital, there too “due to security measures“.

The T5 (Saint-Denis-Garges-Sarcelles Market) is interrupted between Butte Pinson and Garges-Sarcelles, as well as between Saint-Denis Market and Roger Sémat, with no prospect of resumption on Thursday, according to information from the RATP mid-morning updates.

The T6 (Viroflay-Châtillon) is also very affected, with interrupted traffic “between Division Leclerc and Louvois“, with no recovery planned by the end of service Thursday evening.

Besides, “the bus network remains very disrupted” et “some lines are diverted and/or limited”added the Régie, citing the “events that occurred during the night in Île-de-France“.

The night from Wednesday to Thursday was marked by particularly tense scuffles turning into riots in many working-class neighborhoods. In total, according to Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, 150 people were arrested and several public buildings “burned or attacked“. A T6 train was set on fire in Clamart (Hauts-de-Seine).
