Severe Traffic Jams at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali – Passengers Forced to Run on Bali Mandara Toll Road

Severe traffic jams occurred in traffic I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. The airport has engineered a route where the traffic jam reaches the Bali Mandara toll road.

Namely by providing online motorbike taxis, to preparing two-wheeled vehicles to help passengers carrying suitcases.

“We have prepared trolleys near vehicle access to help passengers carry luggage, and we have provided two boogie cars to mobilize elderly passengers, passengers with children and passengers carrying a lot of luggage,” said Handy, Friday (29/12/20230.

The density began to appear from 13.00 WITA, but serious traffic jams occurred at night. In fact, many foreign nationals (WNA) decided to get off in the middle of the road, even on the Bali Mandara Toll Road, to run to I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport.

Handy said that initially they had tried to handle this together with the Airport Police and the Indonesian Air Force. Avation Security personnel and parking officers are also trying to regulate traffic. Due to the increasing volume of vehicles, traffic jams end up not only on the road leading to the airport entrance, but also on other protocol roads such as Jalan Kediri and the Ngurah Rai Bypass.

Seeing passengers running in droves to catch the plane’s flight time, Handy opened communication with the airline to help passengers who ended up missing their plane. He ensures that all operations run well.

“In order to adjust the departure schedule taking into account the congestion situation in the Bali region. This policy includes rescheduling passengers who are late departing, we apologize for this situation,” he said.

“Until now, we continue to ensure that operations and services run well, especially coordinating intensively with the airlines, as well as providing direct service assistance to passengers,” he continued.

It is known that during busy airport access times, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport continued to operate with a total of 213 domestic aircraft movements and 157 international aircraft movements.

Seeing this situation, Handy appealed to prospective passengers to leave for the airport earlier than the scheduled departure to avoid potential congestion on the roads.
