Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Sweep Across Bulgaria

Following yellow and orange code warnings for thunderstorms, torrential rain and hail conditions over most of the country, storm clouds formed in northwest Bulgaria earlier today.

Heavy rain fell in the cities of Vratsa, Lom, Cherven Bryag and Montana.

In the region, the rainfall was accompanied by thunder and hail, which was reported by social media users.

A thunderstorm also formed in the region of Sevlievo, Veliko Tarnovo, Kardjali and Stara Zagora.

There, too, the torrential rain came down together with small hail.

The gloomy blanket of clouds and torrential rain did not miss the capital. In the afternoon hours of the day, lightning lit up the sky, and a heavy downpour turned Sofia’s streets into rivers.

In the eastern part of the country and over Burgas, the storm brought heavy rain, accompanied by wind and thunder.

The storm clouds are expected to reach Plovdiv, as well as the southern regions of the country, where an orange code for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms was announced yesterday.
