“Severe Storms Threaten Millions in North-Central Texas: What to Expect”

An entire region of the southern United States could be in danger of severe storms again this Friday and Saturday.

Millions of people in north-central Texas, including those in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, face “significant risks” as the possibility of damaging winds, large hail and tornado formation are expected, therefore, communities are urged to take precautions.

In this regard, and according to the Storm Prediction Center, more than 12 million people in Texas are at risk. The most severe impacts from the storm are forecast to include damaging winds and hail of at least 2 inches in diameter that will affect north-central Texas between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. local time Friday.

The weather in the southern United States this weekend: What can we expect?

According to meteorologists National Weather Service in Fort Worththese imminent conditions have prompted the Storm Prediction Center to issue a warning of increased risk of severe storms, rated Level 3 of 5 in severity, for people in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The prediction center also warned that the main threat would be large hail, with possible cases of stones larger than 8 centimeters.

According to the prediction center, in other cities there is a slight risk (level 2/5) associated with severe storms that will be expected from south Texas to the Texas-Arkansas and Texas-Oklahoma borders, where there is a high probability that they will perceive large hail fall, strong winds and some isolated tornadoes. At-risk cities in this area include San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, and Austin.

Recently, another storm system has caused a threat of severe weather, prompting reports of tornadoes, wind gusts and dangerously large hail in Texas and Florida.

This week, a storm spawned a tornado near Hosford, Florida, destroying a dozen homes and damaging 20 others, according to Rhonda Lewis, Liberty County Emergency Management director.

Of the seven tornado reports on Thursday, six occurred in northwestern Florida and one in southwestern Georgia. In addition to tennis ball-sized hail that battered parts of Texas and Florida on Wednesday, hail up to 4 centimeters in diameter was reported Thursday in several Florida cities, leaving thousands of people without power across the North state.

Additionally, there is a marginal risk of thunderstorms in the Southeast, from southern Florida to Virginia. The warning area includes cities like Miami, Jacksonville and Tampa in Florida, Savannah in Georgia, Charleston and Raleigh in the Carolinas and Roanoke in Virginia.

The Weather Prediction Center warned that more rounds of heavy rain and severe weather are expected in the southern states today and through early Friday, followed by parts of Texas by early Saturday.

By Saturday, most of the severe weather will be subsiding, although there is still some uncertainty in the forecast. Cities like New Orleans, Montgomery and Mobile in Alabama, and Orlando and Tampa in Florida, could experience damaging winds, hail and even an isolated tornado.
