Severe storms move to New York area – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – Thunderstorms are expected to hit the three-state area later on Monday, which could bring torrential rains and strong winds to parts of the region after a cloudy and terribly rainy day with temperatures around the 1970s.

Isolated thunderstorms could occur in some places in the afternoon, although a better chance looms for more widespread weather between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Some cells can be strong or severe. With this system, lightning is likely, while the possibility of tornadoes, flash floods and hail is not excluded.

At this point, flash floods and traffic jams Monday night through Tuesday, along with winds, appear to be the main threats.

Rainy weather decreases in the late Tuesday morning and humidity drops Wednesday afternoon, paving the way for a spectacular sunny period spanning the mid-70s to 80s through early next week.
