Severe Storms Expected: What You Need to Know

What to Know

After a cloudy and muggy start to our day, the possibility of severe weather returns to our area this afternoon and evening as a line of strong and possibly severe storms move in. These storms are expected to bring damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, heavy rain, and even the possibility of a few isolated tornadoes. These storms will be the price we pay for good weather this weekend with lots of sun, high humidity, and temperatures in the 80s both days.

NEW YORK — After a cloudy and muggy start to our day, the possibility of severe weather returns to our area this afternoon and evening as a line of strong and possibly severe thunderstorms moves forward.

These storms are expected to bring damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, heavy rain, and even the possibility of a few isolated tornadoes.

The worst will begin to move over the Hudson Valley after noon, hitting Sullivan and Ulster around 2-3 pm and then continuing east into the metropolitan area around dinner time and the coastal areas later in the night.

All the rain should end before dawn on Saturday. These storms will be the price we will pay for good weather this weekend with lots of sun, high humidity and 80 degree temperatures both days.

Next week the possibility of storms returns.
