Severe Storms and Tornadoes Threaten New York Tri-State Area.

Severe weather put residents on alert Saturday night after tornado and severe thunderstorm watches were issued in the New York tri-state area.

A cold front moving to the east Saturday night is expected to bring a round of showers and possible thunderstorms to the area, beginning with New Jersey.

Severe overnight weather would begin around dinnertime in the Garden State before continuing on to New York. Check the latest severe weather alerts for your neighborhood here.

The rain should continue well into the night, picking up the next morning after potentially falling a half inch. Tri-State area residents are advised to anticipate damaging winds during Saturday’s storm activity; Tornadoes are not ruled out either.

The storms were expected to hit New York City and its immediate suburbs a little later, around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The sun returns Sunday afternoon for more days with highs above 60 degrees, before a cool down into next week.
