Severe Storms and High Wind Advisory in Arizona due to Tropical Moisture from Hilary

ARIZONA – Tropical moisture from Hilary will increase the risk of potentially severe storms in Arizona on Sunday and Monday.

Major threats include high winds, flash flooding, and isolated tornadoes in southwestern Arizona and southeastern California.

The national meteorological service has issued the following alerts:

High Wind Advisory for Western Arizona (Yuma, Southeast Yuma County, and Gila River Valley) in effect until 11:00 PM Sunday, Gusts over 60 mph possible, with the potential to generate thunderstorms of dust. High Wind Warning for Phoenix in effect from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday. High Wind Advisory for Tucson in effect until 10 pm Sunday Flash Flood Hazard Watch for Western and Southern Arizona (Central La Paz, Gila River Valley, Kofa, Parker Valley, and Yuma) in effect through Monday at 11:00 pm Additionally, a “GO” evacuation order has been issued for areas of Mohave County including Temple Bar and Willow Beach of Lake Mead National Park. The National Park Service recommends that everyone in the area evacuate to higher elevations.

Cloudiness, humidity and rain will also affect temperatures. The high temperature in the Valley today will remain in the mid/upper 90s in Phoenix. In the elevated areas of northern Arizona, the high will remain in the 70s and 80s.
