Severe Storms and Flooding Threaten Western New York, Weekend Forecast Shows Improvement

NEW YORK — A series of strong to severe storms moved into western New York overnight Thursday, prompting a thunderstorm watch for a handful of New Jersey counties.

By Friday morning, storms are expected to hit much of the region anytime between 4:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

The threat of severe weather increases with a series of strong thunderstorms for Friday that will affect the morning rush hour with the possibility of continued thunderstorms in the afternoon as temperatures rise.

Flash flooding and damaging winds could be the main threats of the day, though most areas were not expected to see less than 2 inches of rain.

The rain should clear up by Friday night, paving the way for a spectacular weekend. Temperatures will remain within normal for this time of year and humidity should be moderate.

The next chance of rain comes Tuesday, with another round of days with temperatures in the 90s.
