Severe Storm Alert for NYC Christmas Countdown: Rain and Strong Winds to Hit Tri-State Area Again

For the second Sunday in a row, a rain storm and strong winds could ruin the countdown to Christmas in New York and the tri-state area.

In the middle of a Saturday of mild weather and clear skies in the last weekend of fallthe New York City Department of Emergency Management (NYCEM) issued this afternoon an alert from this Sunday night until 6 pm Monday. New Yorkers are advised to limit travel and stay home during periods of severe weather. And if you have to leave the house and/or drive, do so with great caution.

The low pressure system will move north from Florida on Sunday afternoon and dump 1.5 to 3 inches of rain before it ends. Unlike last Sunday’s storm, this one will start later and last until Monday.

There is a flood alert for most of New Jersey and others for winds from Fairfield County (CT) to Westchester (NY) and also Long Island (NY)accurate ABC News.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph can cause damage and isolated power outages. Near the coast they could reach a maximum of 50 a 60 mph.

To the south, the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida could see 3 to 5 inches of rain with possible flash flooding before the storm leaves the region on Monday.

“Check that storm drains are free of leaves and other debris so rain can drain efficiently. Secure loose items and Christmas decorations,” recommended meteorologist Brittany Bell.

Later in the week, no rain is expected in NYC, but lower temperatures are expected, close to 40F (4C), he highlighted New York Post. Winter will officially begin this Thursday the 21st.
