Severe Rainfall in New York City Causes Significant Damage and Disruptions

The counties of Brooklyn and Queens are those that have reported the greatest damage until 10:00 in the morning.

The MTA reported that the B, G, W and Sf lines of the subway are completely suspended.

While lines 2,3,4, 5 and 6, in addition to lines C, D, F, L and N, are partially suspended due to flooding and water on the tracks.

The same transportation authority asked citizens not to go out if not necessary.

“Service on our system is severely disrupted due to extreme rain. Please stay home if you don’t need to go out,” they said in a tweet.

Rain causes flight delays

Damage was also reported at airports in the New York metropolitan area.

At the JFK terminal, 138 flights were reported delayed and 10 suspended.

While in Newark the number of delayed flights was 54 at 10:15 in the morning.

Around 11:00 in the morning it was reported that Terminal A at LaGuardia Airport was closed until further notice.

In the Woodside area of ​​Queens, several streets reported flooding.

The City reported that the parking suspensions will be void today and tomorrow.

They declare a state of emergency due to rain in New York

Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in New York City this morning due to rain.

Through her X account, the Governor extended this declaration to Long Island and the Hudson Valley.

“I am declaring a state of emergency in New York City, Long Island and the Hudson Valley due to the extreme rainfall we are seeing throughout the region,” he posted.

“Take steps to stay safe and remember to never attempt to travel through flooded roads,” he said.
