There is flooding in various places in North Holland due to high water levels in the Markermeer and the IJsselmeer in combination with driving winds. Several houses have been flooded.

In Hoorn, among other places, residents were woken up early by the police due to the risk of flooding. Due to the high water, the water at Visserseiland and De Grashaven marina was already overflowing the quay and threatening to flood the garages. Residents have removed their cars and other valuables from the garages.

As a precaution, the water board and the fire brigade have placed sandbags at front doors and garage boxes to stop the water. According to the safety region, the water is about thirty centimeters higher than normal and the water level is still rising. The high tide may last until Tuesday.

Residents in Volendam were also woken up by the police because of the high water. The water on the quay is now at knee height. The fire brigade has also placed sandbags here and is pumping away the water. Several parking spaces have also been cleared.

The water in the IJsselmeer is also still high. The Hollands Noorderkwartier water board still refers to ‘alert phase 1’. In contrast to the Markermeer, it was possible in recent days well drained from the IJsselmeer, which has caused the water level to drop slightly.
