Hamburg’s streets and neighborhoods were completely submerged on Friday after the Elbe River overflowed due to heavy rain. The bad weather was caused by a storm in northern Europe that brought rain and strong winds. The German railway authorities announced the suspension of travel on certain routes from Hamburg, reported The Guardian.

Authorities are also warning of major flooding in parts of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Bavaria. According to data from the German Meteorological Service, snow is expected to fall again, which will affect the area between the state of Thuringia and the forests in Bavaria, located at an altitude of more than 600-800 meters above sea level.

The weather service said heavy snowfall is expected in the central part of the Ore Mountains in Saxony today. There is a danger of falling trees and breaking branches. It is also possible that the frost will affect an area stretching from the eastern parts of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony to western Poland.
