(Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jeong Seong-jo = Chinese authorities are speeding up rescue and relief activities as the rain clouds of Typhoon No. 5’Eagle’, which poured heavy rain for several days in Beijing and Hebei Province in northern China, moved to the northeast region.
According to the Central Meteorological Observatory of China on the 2nd, Typhoon Eagle landed in southeast China on the 28th of last month, and from the next day, the torrential rain that poured over northern regions such as Beijing and Hebei Province for about 70 hours subsided. Clear weather has returned from this morning in central Beijing and elsewhere.
As of 9 a.m. (local time) the previous day, Xingtai City in Hebei Province, which recorded a cumulative rainfall of 1,03 mm, rained in just two days in two years in a normal year. It is also an amount that far exceeds the maximum precipitation of 861 mm in Zhejiang Province, which was the first to hit Typhoon Eagle.

The Beijing Meteorological Observatory said that over the past four days, Beijing has seen the most rain in the preceding 140 years.
A total of 744.8mm of heavy rain fell in Changping District, the northwest region of Beijing, which recorded the most rainfall this time, from 8:00 pm on the 29th of last month to 7:00 am on the 2nd of this month.
The maximum rainfall in the previous area, which is currently recorded, was 510.3 mm (weekly total) in July 1883 and 609 mm in July 1891. On July 21, 2012, 541mm of rain fell.
The Chinese meteorological authorities explain that the cause of the heavy rain is that the water vapor driven by the typhoon stays inland for a long time due to the subtropical high pressure in the east, the southeast wind, and the mountainous terrain in the north.
Because of this, even if it was not a local heavy rain, it rained a lot of rain at the level of 100 to 300 mm across the wide areas such as Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Shaanxi, Henan, and Shandong.
The sudden heavy rain also resulted in casualties. According to Chinese media, as of the afternoon of the 1st, 11 people died and 13 people went missing in Beijing, and 9 people died and 6 people went missing in Hebei Province.
In Beijing, a total of 44,673 people were displaced, mainly in the west and south, and in Hebei Province, 540,000 people in 87 counties suffered heavy rain damage.

Although the rains in the northern region have subsided, there are still many isolated residents in places flooded with swollen rivers.
In Zhuozhou, which was particularly badly damaged in Hebei Province, a number of villages were submerged. Among them, the isolation of the residents occurred intensively in Matoujin, which is located on the plain where three streams meet.
According to the new report, most of the houses in Zhuotong Village, Matou Town, Zuozhou City, where about 500 households and 2,000 people live, are in a state of flooding.
Some residents said they had not been notified prior to the opening of the floodgates in the nearby river, and it was reported that there was no prior evacuation at the village level. The remaining residents are waiting for rescue by going up to the upper floors of the building where each of them was located.
The day before, news broke that an elderly man in his 80s was trapped on a roof in nearby Taipingzhuang village, and a pregnant woman was rescued in Yonglechun.
On the afternoon of the previous day, a rescue worker in Hebei Province explained, “There are so many calls for rescue, so now (when I receive the call) they are mainly saying, ‘The situation on the Zhuozhou side is more serious.'”
Rescue authorities have so far deployed a total of 8,000 people, and are currently rescuing residents using helicopters and lifeboats, according to Chinese media.
Meanwhile, heavy rain may also fall locally in the southeastern part of Heilongjiang Province and the central part of Jilin Province, where rain clouds have moved, and there is a possibility that Typhoon Kanun, approaching from the south, will soon head to the coast of Fujian and Zhejiang Province in southeast China, so the Chinese authorities are concerned about additional damage. bordering on possibilities.
