Severe Flash Floods in Bucks County: Three Dead, Four Missing, Including Two Children

Severe and sudden floods hit Bucks County this weekend in the United States. Three people were found dead and four are missing, including two children.

Residents of Upper Makefield Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania (USA) were hit by flash and flash flooding on Saturday July 15. The region experienced torrential rains throughout the weekend and severe flooding killed at least three people, while four others are still missing on Monday.

Among the latter are two children, a 9-month-old boy and his 2-year-old sister. According to information from theAssociated Press, several cars were swept away and buildings were submerged. “In forty-four years, I’ve never seen anything like it… When the water came up, it came up very quickly,” said Upper Makefield Fire Chief Tim Brewer.

The three people found dead were discovered outside their vehicles. According to the local police, it is unfortunately “very possible” that there are more victims. About 100 people were still involved in the search on Sunday and, according to Tim Brewer, eight victims were rescued while trapped in their car.

The fire chief explained that the two missing children are part of a family from Charleston, South Carolina. They were on their way to a barbecue with relatives when their vehicle was swept away.

“As they tried to escape the floods, the dad took his 4-year-old son away while the mother and grandmother grabbed the other two children, aged 9 months and 2 years,” he said. he declares. The father and son “miraculously” managed to get to safety but “the grandmother, the mother and the two children were swept away”. The mother is among those found dead, but rescuers continue to search for the rest of the family.

Several roads have been closed due to flooding and the authorities are advising, as far as possible, to avoid driving in the canton. The severe weather recorded on Sunday also led to the cancellation of hundreds of surrounding flights. More than 350 planes were grounded at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, and another 280 suffered the same fate at Kennedy International Airport in New York.
