Lack of rain has affected several Spanish regions

The severe drought scenario is affecting many regions of Spain, including Catalonia, which will enter pre-emergency next week. David Moscart, Catalan minister for climate action, announced a series of measures to mitigate the lack of rain and which will affect many areas of sport.
Firstly, water consumption will be reduced to a maximum of 210 liters per inhabitant per day. The use of showers will also be prohibited in both gyms and changing rooms at sports centers where federated sports are practiced. This regulation may naturally generate controversy, but it is seen as compensation for the fact that watering of lawns at sports venues will continue to be permitted, unlike what is imposed for gardens and private homes. Public swimming pools will also be partially filled.
Mascort argues that “it’s about allowing people to continue doing sport, but promoting water saving”. “I’ve played football and I know that showers in the changing rooms are an important moment for teams, but it’s something that can be dispensed with,” he said.
In practice, these restrictions could affect up to six million people in the 202 municipalities supplied by the Ter and Llobregat river system, including Girona, Tarragona and Barcelona. The objective, it must be said, is to postpone the emergency scenario as long as possible, as it will come into effect if the reservoirs are at 16% of their capacity. Currently, they are precisely below 18%. By Record
