On Sunday afternoon, the streets of Marrakech turned into rocky rivers after heavy rain. Although the showers lasted only half an hour, they caused great chaos in the town. Residents desperately sought safety.
The images captured by the viewers speak for themselves. Videos of the flood, which completely submerged streets and alleys, have been circulating on social media. In a tunnel, two cars were even washed away by a mass of water.

The rain was so heavy that the sewage system could not handle the amount of water. The drainage systems and water drains, including gutters and channels, were not able to withstand heavy rain.
The floods were not entirely unexpected. The Moroccan weather service DGM already had this on Saturday heavy rain warning (20 to 60 mm), fog and strong wind (70 to 85 km/h) in different parts of the country.

Rains (30 to 50 mm) were expected on Sunday in the regions of Kelaa Sraghna, Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Rhamna, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tata and Assa-Zag. Also for Monday, the DGM expected heavy rain (40 to 60 mm) in Tinghir, Midelt, Errachidia, Zagora, Ouarzazate, Tata and Taroudant, and strong wind storms (70 to 85 km/h) in Figuig, Jerada , Taourirt, Boulemane and Midelt.
