NS and ProRail take into account that the track has been severely damaged by storm Poly. ProRail expects it to take a lot of time to remove fallen trees from the track and to repair damaged tracks and overhead wires. “If the damage on the track is just as great as on the road, then the havoc will be enormous,” says the NS.
NS and ProRail are therefore not yet able to say when train traffic can be restarted. The Dutch Railways will be running so-called inspection trains this afternoon. Those empty trains run at a walking pace, so that the extent of the damage can be estimated. Once the scope is clear, repair work can begin.
Travelers must expect nuisance throughout the day, say NS and ProRail. Travelers are advised to arrange alternative transport.
