Severe blockade on the 18th – the business on the square, closed roads, Sofia without transport

The government demanded the resignation of two different protests a few meters from each other “Vazrazhdane” and IMRO yesterday in Sofia. The former are dissatisfied with the fact that Ukrainian military equipment will be repaired in our country, while the latter are against lifting the veto of Northern Macedonia for the EU. May 18 will be the X day for the survival of the new government. The first really serious protest against the government was scheduled for that time, this time backed by large business organizations. Therefore, he will most likely signal whether and for how long the rule of “Change” will continue.

Despite the tremors on certain topics between the square of parties in the coalition, it still maintains balance. However, it is fragile and could be severely shaken if people take to the streets en masse because of the crisis over high gas and electricity prices.

This is exactly what the president spoke “prophetically”

as early as the end of April. ATI see people on the street more often, announced Rumen Radev from Spain. Maybe that’s why the National Assembly is “living” again behind permanent metal fences – as with Oresharski. They were placed a week ago, when protests for and against the war in Ukraine clashed in front of the building, and remained on the yellow paving stones.

In five months, Petkov’s cabinet went through relatively few protests, including the one with the carriers, when the major blockades in downtown Sofia dissipated.

On May 18, however, the capital and other major cities will be paralyzed. Employers, carriers, restaurateurs and transport workers in Sofia take to the streets.

At 12 o’clock on Nezavisimost Square a protest was convened by CEIBG, BIA, BICA, BCCI and other employers’ organizations. They have stated

15,000 people and 200 buses

They demand immediate compensation for high electricity and gas prices and an end to impoverishment. According to them, the state treats the business, from whose taxes it is supported, as a “beggar waiting for alms”. Until yesterday, this was the only protest announced in the municipality.

The knife rested on the bone. We have vague assurances that the aid will continue in May. The surplus profits at Kozloduy NPP alone are enough to cover the entire compensation program for all non-household consumers – 663 thousand, announced Vasil Velev from BICA. He insisted that the measures continue for as long as necessary – this is the position of the EU.

At the same time, restaurateurs will gather in front of the Council of Ministers building on Dondukov Blvd. Let us be united and together protect the interests of business and workers in Bulgaria, called by the Association of Restaurants.

For the 18th, carriers who threaten to stop intercity buses and block roads have also moved their national protest. The industry insists on reducing the excise tax on fuels, eliminating the bio-additive, and not raising toltaxes.

On the same day, over 46,000 high school graduates from all over the country, of which over 9,000 in Sofia, will take the Bulgarian language and literature exam. However, the capital will dawn with a blockade of several key crossroads. At 8 o’clock the workers in the subway, buses and trams, who are not on duty at the moment, go out to protest. It is organized by the Federation of Transport Workers at the Podkrepa Labor Confederation, because the capital’s public transport is in financial decline and the employees are not sure whether they will receive their salaries on time. However, the subway will not stop.

The Minister of Education Nikolay Denkov had personal telephone conversations with the leaders of the protesting carriers with a request to comply – the transport to work normally and not to block roads at least until 9 am and between 12 and 14.30, so that students can go to the exam and go home.

The protest is from 8 am, and until then the high school students must be at school, however, Ivan Kirilov, head of the organizing federation, commented to “24 Chasa”. His son will also be holding his graduation exam and will leave early for it.
