A traveler’s leg was amputated after being caught on a moving walkway at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, Thailand.
According to local media such as Nation on the 30th, a female passenger at Don Mueang Airport the previous day was on her way to the gate to board a plane, and was caught in a suitcase and fell on a moving walkway, resulting in an accident.
It is said that the passenger’s leg got stuck when the moving walk safety cover was damaged due to the shock caused by the fall. Airport medical staff amputated the passenger’s left leg above the knee and rushed him to a nearby Bumrungrad hospital. It is known that the hospital will attempt leg joint surgery.
The passenger was at the domestic terminal to catch a flight to southern Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The Airports Authority of Thailand (AoT) ordered safety inspections for all moving walkways at Don Mueang Airport. The moving walk where the accident occurred has been used since 1996. The airport said it planned to replace the old moving walkways by 2025, but this accident could bring the replacement time forward.
The airport corporation apologized for the accident and announced that it would pay the victim’s medical expenses and compensate. Don Mueang Airport, located in the north of Bangkok, along with Suvarnabhumi Airport, is Bangkok’s representative international airport.
