It reports the police in Birmingham on their own twitter account. According to the police, one man was killed in the stabbings. One man and one woman have serious injuries, and another five people are injured. The latter have no life-threatening injuries.
– Just after midnight, the police were notified of stabbing north of the city center. Shortly afterwards, there were reports of other similar incidents from other places nearby, said Steve Graham, the spokesman from the police during a press conference just before 12.30 Norwegian time.
The stabbings lasted for an hour and a half. Graham said there have been several stab wounds at each of the four places they were notified. The police link all four incidents to each other, and they are looking for one suspect.
– We are still early in the investigation, and I hope for understanding that I can not go further into the people who have been affected and their condition, Graham said.
Graham further said that the police will release surveillance images from the incidents when this is possible.
– We will ask everyone who has been in the area to report so that we can find suspects, he said.
Police say there is no indication that the attack is due to a hate crime.
Notification of stabbing just after midnight
According to Sky News Police received reports of a stabbing in Birmingham city center around 00.30 local time.
– We moved out immediately together with colleagues from the ambulance service. A number of stabbings were reported in the area shortly after. We are aware that several people are injured, but at the moment we can not say anything about how many or how serious, it is said in a statement from the police in the West Midlands, according to Sky News.
The emergency services worked on the spot, and an investigation of the course of events was quickly launched.
