At a press conference at 20.45 on Sunday night, the police confirm that several people were killed when shots were fired at the Fields shopping center in Copenhagen. The suspected perpetrator, a 22-year-old Danish man, has been arrested.
– We have no indication here and now that it has been done together with others, says chief police inspector Søren Thomassen.

He will not say how many died. The shooting is said to have taken place in several places in the shopping center.
The police will not say whether the man was known to the police before, or what weapon he has used.

Thomassen emphasizes that what he says is “associated with a certain amount of uncertainty”.

Thomassen asks the public to tip the police if they have observed or heard anything that may be related to the case.
– We are massively present throughout Copenhagen, he says.
– We gather all our forces, including those in Zealand and Jutland, so that we have a lot of crew and become visible in Copenhagen. We will scale up as there is a need for it.
– We must be absolutely sure that we are in control of the situation. Until we know for sure that there was only one perpetrator, then we drive on, he says.

At least three people in hospital
More than three people are being treated at Rigshospitalet, the hospital’s press officer informs Berlingske Tidende. More ambulances are still arriving, the newspaper writes.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently has no information on whether Norwegians are affected after the attack.
People are encouraged to stay away from the area.

The police encourage those present to contact their relatives. That message was repeated by Police Inspector Thomassen during the press conference on Sunday night:
– Be sure to contact your relatives and say that you are safe. If you have information or video, contact the Copenhagen police, he says.
Copenhagen’s mayor Sophie Andersen states that the municipality has set crisis staff, and is ready to help the police when needed.
– We do not know how many are injured or dead, but it is very serious, Andersen writes on Twitter.
The hospitals in Copenhagen are on standby, they tweet. The hospitals’ emergency telephone has burst capacity, and they ask people to wait to call the emergency number unless it is urgent.
Armed police also at Kastrup
Fields shopping center is located in Amager south of central Copenhagen.
Berlingske Tidende reports that armed police are also present at Copenhagen Airport Kastrup, which is located nearby. It is the largest airport in the Nordic region.
The popular artist Harry Styles was actually going to play a sold-out concert in the Royal Arena ten minutes away from Fields shopping center. Just after 9.30 pm, Ekstra Bladet announced that the concert had been canceled.
