Several people were killed and injured in a stabbing at the ‘Festival of Diversity’ in the German city of Solingen

Germany

Several people have been killed in a suspected knife attack at a festival marking the 650th anniversary of the demise of the town of Solingen in western Germany. This is reported by the German police. There are also reports of several injuries.

Several people have died after being stabbed in the German city of Solingen. The police confirm this. The emergency services are on the scene and are currently busy reviving the injured, reports Bild.

According to local media Solinger Tageblatt, at least nine people were stabbed. Philipp Müller, one of the co-organizers, explained on stage that the emergency services were fighting for the lives of nine people, the news site said.

Manhunt

No one has been arrested yet and the person who committed the crime – who according to witnesses looks Arab – is still on the run. The police are conducting a manhunt and have called in a helicopter. The authorities are asking the residents of Solingen to leave the city center.

The incident took place at 9:45 pm at Fronhof, a market place in the center of Solingen. There is a stage there and live music was played. Solingen is celebrating the city’s 650th anniversary this weekend with a three-day Festival of Diversity. A total of 80,000 visitors were expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

An attendee tells Solinger Tageblatt that he was standing near the stage of the festival when the attack happened. “And then someone fell more than a meter next to me,” he says. At first the man thought he was a drunk. But when he turned around, he saw more people lying on the ground. And several pools of blood, he testifies. He himself was harmless.
