Several people evacuated after smoke developed in an apartment block on Stovner in Oslo – the fire was extinguished

The emergency services went to Stovner on Saturday morning after a report of heavy smoke in a block of flats. The fire is now out.

The police in Oslo received several reports about the fire at 1040.

– There was heavy smoke in a hallway and in an apartment. The residential building has two floors and around 100 residents. As a result of smoke in the hallway, the residents were initially asked to stay inside, says operations manager Tor Gulbrandsen to VG at 11am.

At 11.06, the Oslo 110 central writes that the fire has been extinguished.

– We participate in the evacuation work, air out smoke and check the block.

The police state that there has been a fire in an apartment on the second floor.

– This has created a strong smoke build-up. The riser that caught fire has now been evacuated and all residents have been accounted for at the assembly point. Ambulances are now examining all evacuees, and as of now no injuries have been reported.

Those residents who had got out are being taken care of. Some evacuees from the block are looked after by police and health in a neighboring block, the police write on Twitter.

– Smoke divers are now inside the building, says Gulbrandsen.

Oslo 110 central sent three cars and initially stated that it was relatively chaotic at the scene.

– There is a lot of smoke and we have information that smoke is drawing into apartments, said Glenn Gulbrandsen, duty commander at OBRE.

He said that the fire and rescue agency prioritized getting people out and gaining control of the place.

– It is very unclear at the moment, said Gulbrandsen.
